Biography for Mr. John Tygart
I started training in American Tae Kwon Do in Aug 1984, in Duncanville Texas. While in the military I was stationed overseas in Japan, which gave me the chance to study several martial arts including Shotokan, Ishin Ryu, Aikido, Jeet Kun Do, Hawaiian Lua as well as the basics of stick and knife fighting from the Filipino martial arts of Escrima and Arnis.
I was exposed to Kenpo Karate for the first time in 1988. I later studied Tiger Crane Kenpo to Black Belt level. I also trained in American Kenpo and Shaolin Kenpo.
After my discharge from the Navy, I continued my Tae Kwon Do Training and attained 1st Degree Black Belt (Shodan) in 2000 and 2nd Degree Black (Nidan) in 2001. In March 2009, during a special testing, I was promoted to 4th Degree Black.
